Which 21st century icon of femininity would be worthy of comparisons to the mighty Marilyn Monroe? Armani and Select NY wisely decided that Beyonce would fit the bill and that’s why she’s the star of Armani’s new commercial for their fragrance, ‘Diamonds’. The spot sees Beyonce sing a Marilyn classic: ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’. She is, of course, dripping in sparkly gems and oozing sexiness as she belts her way through the song. And although Beyonce is 100% naturally stunning, we reckon we can take just a tiny bit of credit for boosting the ad’s sex appeal. We contributed a fair bit of beauty work in Flame and Telecine. Not that Beyonce needs beauty work, but we couldn’t resist accentuating her amazing assets, like those Marilyn-esque curves. Our Telecine team graded two passes – colour and monochrome – so that Rob Walker could play around in Flame with colour light reflections emanating from Beyonce’s dress and shoes. Rob also imbued the commercial with some trademark finishing touches, like additional falling diamonds.
